Trap Bar, Grand Targhee…Best Nachos of the season
January 4th, 2009There is nothing I like more than to sit down with good friends after a day of skiing to a plate of loaded nachos. After a dissappointing round of apres nachos ($15/each plus extra for the added convenience of guacamole!) at a restaurant in Teton Village, Wyoming, I seriously thought that good nachos, like a booming economy, were a thing of the past. Until yesterday….the Trap Bar at Grand Targhee Resort (Alta, Wyoming) proved that even a lackluster economy can produce superb nachos.
- The beginning….fully loaded Teton Nachos at the Trap Bar
- Cheese to perfection!
- The End…not a chip left!
I like a heaping plate of chips layered with melted cheese and loaded with all the fixings: tomatoes, black olives, bell peppers, salsa, guacamole, sour cream (only a little), and the occasional black beans and corn, chicken/ground beef/steak.
Nacho traits I consider sub-par: non-melted cheese, cheese that is not layered within the pile of chips, soggy chips. I completely disregard a plate of chips with chili dumped on them as just that…a soggy pile of chips with an easy out for the prep chef in the kitchen.
The Trap Bar hit all points on my list of high expectation nachos: layered, melted cheese, beans and salsa on the side so as not to ’soggy’ up the chips, and bucketloads of toppings over the cheese-melted chips. All for a mere $11.95!!
