Elk Meat Nachos

Elk Meat Nachos

Elk-meat nachos at the Snake River Lodge show promise, but lack the melted cheesiness of my desires. The $17 nachos (normally $12, but we asked for some protien) were fairly close to the perfect nacho….

Likes: Tons of toppings! I will give some extra points for the use of corn and fresh jalepenos (that made me cry just looking at them). Also, lots of cheese was nice, and the amount of guacamole was insane! Also, drinks while we waited (White Russians) were perfectly made. The rest of the apres menu looked incredible, with offerings of: Smoked Duck and Shrimp Gumbo, Spicy Crawfish Dip, Buffalo Sliders, and Mountain of Cheese Fries.

Dislikes: The nachos on the menu lacked a meat option, and the server seemed a bit thrown off when we asked for meat (he did, however suggest the elk meat that was used in other apres dishes). Also, the nachos took about 25 minutes to get to our table (unacceptable as there was only one other table in the entire place!) and when they did come, it appeared as though they had been sitting around for a while. Points should also be deducted for the lack of melted cheese layers. While there was plenty of cheese (which I loved!) on the nachos, there is nothing more frustrating that being able to see the shreds of cheese on the inner layers….I would suggest a little more time in the oven, and less on the food line waiting to be brought to the table!

Would I give them another try? Maybe, but I would save $5 and not add elk meat, as it seemed to throw off the timing and freshness of the nachos.
