Generally when the skiing was poor in New England, we’d head North to Vermont and if the skiing was marginal there, we’d head to Tremblant where the skiing was usually better.
They’d pack the fresh snow with snow shoes, 35-40 persons locking arms and walking abreast up and down the trails which would make for smooth skiing.
The Flying Mile ran alongside the single chair and went top to bottom. The trail has a big ditch running down the middle about 30′ deep and you’d go down one side and up the other.
There were rope tows that went between the bottom of the chairlifts, from lift to lift. They were so fast, felt like you were going 40-50 miles an hour.
The people were very friendly and welcoming! The conditions were always excellant, but there was never a ton of snow so you had to learn to ski around the big stumps and rocks. It help my skiing really improve.
Dislikes:
A long trip, two days from home. 400 miles of narrow winding roads.
General Comments:
I remember a great cross country trail called the “Maple Leaf.” The terrain was interesting. A gentle ride up and a steep ride down. You could ski into other towns, from town to town, cross country. We’d switch our bindings from Alpine to Nordic by removing the cable from the rear cable guide so you could have a free heel. Get to the top of a hill and run the cable back into the rear guide and you were Apline skiing again.
