General Comments/Likes

Durango/Purgatory had a slight identity crisis a few years ago, kindo of like the Tampa Bay baseball franchise. This is to cover searches under the DMR name. DMR has decent terrain, especially if your thing is long/speed groomers. Snow has been good both times I visited 12/06 and 4/08. Paul’s Park and Eliott’s off the Legends lift are great on a powder day. Ray’s ridge is a great groomer for racing and has a wicked steep pitch at the bottom. Great views of the San Juans. Durango is about 20 minutes away and is a fun town with good eats (Ken and Sues for one) and historic hotels.

Looks like DMR has opened some new terrain below and skiers’ left of Elliott’s. 125 acres of glades/trees on some of the steeper terrain there should be nice. It’s the first major expansion since the 80s. When you consider that Elliott’s is already one of the premier hits, this will be very welcome. I bumped my rating for terrain meets expections a point on that.

It’s a long drive from the Front Range. You’ll be skiing below treeline on the same aspect no matter where you go.
