King Ridge GHOST SKI HILL Historic/Ghost Area Resort (Are you this resort?)

King Ridge (1961-1995) was an upside-down mountain, you drove to the summit “base” lodge and skied down to the lifts. 2 chairs, 2 T-Bars & 3 J-bars and a 800 foot vertical drop. It was the first ski area in New England to have a triple chair (with a bubble top) and was the last of the “affordable” ski areas.

General Comments/Likes

So you practically hurl in the Safari wagon as it turns and churns its way around curves and over frost heaves for an hour. You get out in the parking lot which is at the summit of the hill and even a nauseated and distracted 10-year old knows “this ain’t right.” This was my first upside-down hill but as I found out when I moved to the midatlantic this is commonplace among smaller areas. I remember the Alice-in-Wonderland trail names, the 50s-60s “modern” summit lodge, and short and easy trails access by a j-bar, which was my favorite conveyance at the time.

Car sickness. But it was closer than Sunapee, but not worth it at that.
