MRG is definitely not the mountain for the weary. If you want to touch almost ANY of their ‘black diamonds’ (which are sometimes harder than Black Hole @ Smuggs) you will need loads of strength and stamina. Although some greens and blues wind their way down the mountain, the black diamonds have all the fun. On powder days and the week thereafter, the terrain is superb. Unmatched by any other mountain in the East. The term ‘ice coast’ is a myth at MRG. If you are one to stick to groomers, look elsewhere, if you love moguls or trees, welcome to heaven. The terrain offers a niche for everyone, and personally, the mogul trails on the top half of the mountain are the best. Trails an expert should try: Fall Line, Paradise, Lower Antelope, Chute, and any other steep mogul or tree trail. Lift is slow, but once you get to the top, it is silent, beautiful, and pristine. The only sound you might hear on the slopes is a skier passing by. The old single is a marvel. After its rebuild, it is much smoother, very quiet, and pretty fast for a non-detachable lift.
This is THE place to be for hardcore eastern skiers. NEVER miss out after ANY snowfall.

Food isn’t perfect, average or minorly good apres ski. Nothing to go wild about unless you’re a regular. Snowboarders not allowed, but thats no problem to me or anyone at MRG.

This is one of THE most honest and informative ratings I’ve seen on this site! Outstanding.
Reading this review really inspires me to head back East and take a test ride. Thanks for the insight.

Thanks!
I’ve taken only a handful of trips out west, to places like Alta, Deer Valley, Breck, Squaw, and Jackson, but frankly, I just like it out here. 3 hours drive does not perturb me whatsoever; its more of suspense than it is a long a tiring drive. I’ve taken more than 50 trips to MRG so I thought it’d be good to put a review somewhere after taking in some good experiences.
Follow Up: If you come to MRG if they haven’t had snow for a bit or its early in the season, the moguls will be pretty tiny, so don’t complain. The gold days for the perfect mogul conditions would be a day or two after a foot or more of snowfall. The moguls really start to get big and the troughs start to get deep. I think I’m gonna call MRG Alta East, or Alta MRG West :P
