Mittersill Ski Area GHOST SKI HILL Historic/Ghost Area Resort (Are you this resort?)
Mittersill Ski Area, Cannon Mountain’s little sister to the northwest, operated from the early 1940’s to about 1980. Developed around the historic Taft Race trail by Austrian refugees, Mittersill had a 1,500 foot vertical drop with nine trails served by a double chair and two T-Bars.

Mittersill was the yang to Cannon’s ying. Wide open slopes and less pitch on average made this an intermediate/casual skier’s refuge. Because it was smaller and had less variety and challenge it was also less crowded and more laid back. This was however the seeds of it’s undoing and ultimately it succumbed in the lean years of the early 80s. I’m glad to see that at least some of the Mittersill terrain is now legally skiable as part of Cannon.
