General Comments/Likes

The day we spent with Monarch Mountain Snowcat Tours was fantastic. 12 friends and two guides with almost 1,000 acres all to ourselves how could we go wrong. We checked in first thing in the morning and were given our avalanche beacons and an orientation/safety lecture. From the base of Monarch Mountain you take a short chair lift ride to the summit where the Snowcat awaits you. Once everybody’s on board the ‘cat heads up to the Mirkwood Basin for the first “check-out” run. Chutes, steeps and untracked powder fields were on the menu for the rest of the day.
At lunch we all skied back to the base lodge for a delicious hot lunch and then back up to the cat for another 3 hours of incredible skiing.
The Monarch Mountain Snowcat guides were highly skilled and very friendly, the terrain was superb and we ended up exhausted. Couldn’t have been a better experience. If you get the chance, do this.

Dislikes

The only complaint we had was that it hadn’t snowed for a few days (something rare for the Monarch Pass area). The skiing however was still terrific.
