General Comments/Likes

ALWAYS GO INTO BACKCOUNTRY AREAS PREPARED. AVALANCHE SAFETY EQUIPMENT, AVALANCHE KNOWLEDGE ALONG WITH KNOWLEDGABLE PARTNERS AND TERRAIN AND ROUTE KNOWLEDGE.
Always check Avalanche reports before accessing backcountry areas.

Now for the good stuff…
Rock Spring is easy to get to and from, so close to JHMR. A true blast in the powder. Terrain that ranges from Advanced to Extreme. Love dropping into Why Not out the bottom gate. A fun out of bounds experience. skiing the gut is a blast. Going out the top gate off of R-Bowl gives a nice long run that has nice above tree line skiing to chutes and fun tree skiing. the out is a nice left turn to bobsled style traverses into the Hobacks.

Dislikes

Gets skied out quickly. Too easily accessed, so people think it is part of the Jackson Hole Resort. If you are skiing on a day or multiday lift ticket, Do not ski this area without a guide or someone who knows this area. Avalanche Safety equipment is a must.
I have seen single skiers and groups without packs beacons, etc… fumbling around this area, risking their lifes and the lifes of everyone who ski Rock Springs.
