I hit the ‘Bird on a weekend with a buddy. We got caught in a 30-incher that dumped on us like an elephant on a prune-tree diet! There’s simply no other way to put it: the snow conditions were retarded. Powder dry enough to make Gold Bond seem clammy. And it was bottomless, everywhere, with NO ONE on the mountain! Throw in a good price on a lift ticket and that tram…holy mother of snowflakes: big, fast, and gets you to the KNAR as effectively as anything I’ve ever had the privilege of riding. Overall, amazing sliding, whose turns I reflect upon in detail even to this day.

Transitions and cat-tracks gets awfully common and awfully flat; a snowboarder’s worst nightmare, and not much better for his skier buddy. Aside from that, the occasional lift was a little on the slow side, and the mountainside help left a little to be desired at times, but overall the ’Bird is a place that needs to be skied in order to understand what kind of snow quality is attainable in the Wasatch mountain range.
