General Comments/Likes
Whitefish Mountain Resort on Big Mountain… boy is that a mouthful with 3,000 acres of skiing and virtually no crowds or liftlines has some of the best sidecountry skiing in Montana. My favorite area of Big Mountain is the Hell Roaring Basin and then I like to follow it up with a cold one in the Hell Roaring Saloon. Whitefish the town is chock full of history, great shops and some good watering holes.
Dislikes
Big Mountain has some of the thickest fog next to a can of Campbell’s split pea soup. In two full seasons there I never got used to skiing the fog. Some of the lamest grooming I’ve ever seen. Whitefish Resort has one of the most insane base set ups that I’ve ever come across, be careful especially if you’re a beginner, everything funnels to the beginner chair. Whitefish has a weird mix of very cool people and Montuckians.
